Hickory Hill Day School has always provided a solid Pre School and Kindergarten program. The children who have come to our school have moved into district classes and excelled.

It is of the utmost importance that young children learn about themselves in a constructive way so that acceptance of and belief in self is fostered.  That is the major goal at Hickory Hill.  Our children are given many opportunities to “live” important experiences.  In doing so, they develop feelings of self respect, self assurance, self discipline and a healthy self image.

Just as it is important for us to learn to live with our own selves, it is also important that we establish satisfying relationships with others.  Hickory Hill Children are given the time, opportunity and guidance as they experiment with the complexities of social living.

Our supportive atmosphere encourages creativity and self expression.

In our classrooms we have implemented the Creative Curriculum. Your child's classroom will provide the opportunity to learn about the world through their various modalities. As their abilities mature their understanding and experience of the world changes.

Our goals are multifaceted. When they leave they will have as their foundation, the pre-academic skills necessary to be successful in Kindergarten and/or First Grade. In addition, we seek to teach them how to plan and organize their day. This of course is a skill we all need and use as adults. Moreover, by providing a greater diversity of materials, we hope to encourage each child’s creativity and individual expression of their inner worlds.

With respect to language skill development Teachers are constantly talking with the children about their play providing a language rich environment.  All centers are labeled with pictures and words.  In this manner within each center children learn to organize materials and then, planning and coordinating activities with each other.  As the children mature they move from the concrete to pictures to letter and word recognition.  Moreover, there are writing materials in many of the learning centers where children begin to recognize the need to write and begin to use this skill at a very elementary level.  Last but certainly not least, we hope to teach the children to listen.  Listening, a critical component of communication is important to learning and understanding one another.  As the teachers listen to the children in an accepting and nurturing manner, children will learn to listen to each other and hopefully to themselves.

Hickory Hill offers a superior Kindergarten Program. A vast variety of teaching techniques and learning activities are made available to our children.  Reading Readiness and Math Skills books are an integral part of individual achievements.  Small class size encourages elaborate activities in such areas as Science, Social Studies, Music and Art.  Close observation of each child enables our teacher to encourage progress to be made at a pace natural to each individual.

Our staff is composed of certified teachers who have been selected for their outstanding qualifications in the field of pre-school education.

Our teacher assistants are trained, mature adults with one major objective and that is to help each teacher bring out the best in your child.

All staff members are encouraged to attend regular seminars and in-service training courses.

We conduct background checks on all employees. Staff are CPR and First Aid certified.

For your convenience, Hickory Hill is open from 7am – 7pm. To take advantage of our longer hours, you must enroll your child in our extended day program.

We provide bussing to and from our local schools; enabling school aged children and families to benefit from our Before/After School hours.

During our after school program staff assists children with their homework. We have also implemented an After School Rewards Program for our school age children. This program is designed to help them develop their academic and socialization skills.

Three progress reports are sent to you during the school year.

A parent / teacher conference is held in November.  Additional private conferences may be arranged by appointment at any time.

We strongly recommend and support parent participation. We will be looking to invite parents into the classroom as volunteers. We also schedule holiday parties and activities where parents are welcome to attend.

Parents are invited to an Autumn Open School Night and at the end of the Spring Semester; an Open House Graduation Program is scheduled.

Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) safety inspected vehicles provide
door-to-door transportation.

A Medical Form will be sent to all registrants.  This form must be filled out by a physician and returned to school.  This should be done as soon as possible as the school receives Department of Health, Office of Children and Family Services and State Education inspections and each child must be completely up to date with his / her immunizations. Medical forms must be submitted annually.
